First Look at Focal Sopra

Here is a brief look at Focal’s newest technologies found in the new Sopra speakers.  Check out demo of them at the Audio Room today.

Focal took on a challenge to conceptualize and extend the boundaries of premium speaker design. This was all while widening its vast expertise and remaining true to its beginnings origins. The new Sopra range of loudspeakers demonstrates that there is still room for elegance in the quest for perfect sound reproduction.

THE REAR TWEETER HORN

Thanks to Focal’s patented IHL technology (Infinite Horn Loading), the 21 milligram dome of the Beryllium tweeter no longer requires large cabinet volume to prevent the reflection of rear sound waves. Sopra had to be compact, the tweeter was designed with a graduated rear horn to avoid any return energy effect that can cause distortion.

MIDRANGE SUSPENSION

The surround connecting the W cone to the chassis can cause abnormalities when its movement does not parallel the movement of the cone. When applied to Sopra’s 6’’ (15cm) woofer, Focal’s patented TMD technology (Tuned Mass Damper) counterbalances the resonance of this oscillating system, providing incomparable transparency. A new powerful digital analysis allows  the Focal TMD to maintain extremely high definition.

A STABLE MAGNETIC FIELD

In most loudspeaker drive units, the magnetic field around the voice coil is unstable. Variations in current from the voice coil, as well as its varying position can be more or less significant, and change the sound reproduction. The innovative new Focal NIC (Neutral Inductance Circuit) was made possible because of the development of a powerful dynamic simulation software.  Finally, Focal stabilized the magnetic field  paving the way for high resolution sound. Sopra speakers are equipped with transducer made in France – arguably the best in the world.  Sopra benefited from major technological innovations that were not even possible three years ago, Sopra N°1 and Sopra N°2 are premium loudspeakers capable of unprecedented performance in an compact design. Emblematic of Focal’s sound signature, the new Sopra line has now paved the way for a new era for the world of high-fidelity.
